Abstract
The plot of the film “A Dangerous Method” (Cronenberg, 2011) ends in the spring of 1913. At the beginning of the following year, Sigmund Freud starts writing his article “Observations on transference love”, published in 1915. Although there are no references in the text concerning the polemic and subsequent rupture with Jung, it can be inferred that his article was motivated partly by the Swiss analyst’s erratic behavior in his treatment of Sabine Spielrein. Given the importance of this work – a canonical piece in psychoanalytic literature- we hereby reproduce an unpublished conference given by Carlos Gutiérrez, who proposes an original follow-up of the original Freudian text. The quotes in Freud’s text are taken from the translation by López-Ballesteros and Torres (O.C: Biblioteca Nueva). In order to make this follow- up easier for readers who are not familiar with this version, a reference by Etchecerry (O.C. Amorrortu) to the translation, is also included.
Key words: Transference | Analyst’s position | Abstinence | Neutrality
