Abstract

Based on the realization of previous articles about the use of cinema in teaching undergraduate students from 5th year of medical schoolin the subject of Psychiatryand a methodology designed for that purpose, as well as the experience of using movies in post-graduate courses for mental health professionals, the authors recount that they have been more useful in terms of reflecting mental disorder seriously. Thus, a group of tapes are suggested for teaching not only undergraduate but also postgraduate psychiatry residents in general, and members of the mental health unit. The opportunity to take advantage of the seventh art in the training of human resources and to enrich their cultural and aesthetic taste can be a challenging and highly profitable activity. In this way, some common disorders of this specialty are listed so as to provide a range of films which the person who is interested may refer to,looking for certain symptoms, syndromes or entities, therapeutic management, progression of the disease, family or social impact, professional ethics and other items of interest. Likewise, some criteria of artistic values of the tapes used are offered. These include "Days of Wine and Roses," "The Three Faces of Eve," "The Prince of Tides," "We need to talk about Kevin," "Boys Do not Cry" and "A Beautiful Mind" among others.
