Abstract

In the hypermodern era, violence assumes new forms: acts sealed by the logic of the not-all. We Need to Talk About Kevin revolves around a mother, her son, and a massacre at a suburban American high school. Eva’s (Tilda Swinton) relationship with her son Kevin (Ezra Miller) is analyzed from a Lacanian perspective, considering the version she constructs and moving beyond it. At the same time, the violent act performed by Kevin is questioned within the context of the era of the Other that doesn’t exist, which is characterized by the decline of the Name-of-the-Father and the predominance of a push to jouir.
