Abstract
There are two interesting antecedents to the film The Truman Show. One of them is "Special Service", an episode of the popular series The Twilight Zone. Andrew Niccol was inspired by this episode, respecting its plot core and multiplying its dramatic possibilities, with a different ending. The other precedent is the Spanish short film "You deserve it" ("Te lo mereces"), made in 1996 by Felipe Jiménez Luna. An examination of these short pieces that preceded The Truman Show in time allows us to analyze Niccol-Weir’s classic from an angle that presents ethical-analytical interest.
